Step1 Door Striker Plate Remove those cheesy little 1 inch brass screws from the striker plate on your door jamb and your hinges attached to the hinge side of the door jamb.
Step2 Galvanized 20d Ring-shank Nail Replace those wimpy little screws with a 20d Ring-shank Nail (20 penny is about 6 inches long. Or you can use a 30d Ring-shank Nail.
Step3 More secure to drive through the 2 studs than just a piece of 1' x 4" The idea is to drive the nail through the 1" x 4" piece of wood that we call the "jamb". Drive the nail through the jamb and through the Jack Stud AND the King Stud.
